Starting with a green field (literally) site she created a beautiful, simple design that solved a number of practical issues - such as how to create a garden in harmony with the North Norfolk elements, how to provide adequate space for family activities as well as quiet places, and how to create a planting plan that would establish the garden relatively quickly but continue to evolve over time. The plans that Susy drew up "borrowed" thoughtfully from the surrounding landscape, specified a variety of materials that complement the house (which is Grade II listed), and laid out pathways that are both practical and fun. We still have the plans because they are wonderful drawings in themselves.
Her planting schemes were sensitive to a number of things that we continue to appreciate; considered use of the site and its orientation, plenty of indigenous plants, harmonious colour palettes and year round seasonal interest.
Susy also recommended and coordinated the local contractors who carried out the construction work. The result has provided our family and friends with enormous enjoyment. Due to Susy's insistence on ‘planting for the next generation’ we can already see that it will continue to delight for many years to come."
